Domaine de la Louvetrie Muscadet Sevre et Maine Sur Lie
Loire Valley 2007
Wine of the week, June 20, 2009
What to expect: Freshness is the key word in all good Muscadets. It abounds in this lovely example of the grape, Melon de Bourgogne. The "Sur Lie" designation indicates that the wine was aged in contact with the spent yeast cells for a period of at least 6 months and this one tastes more like much longer. The wonderful toast and bread dough flavors in the finish are indicative of the 14 months that it spent on the "lies". The fruit is bright lemon juice, lemon peel and green apple with the skin on. It is a zippy, refreshing wine of such freshness that there is a little spritz to it. You will be most happy with it if you drink it with white wine steamed mussels or oysters on the half shell.
