Montpezat Merlot, Vine de Pays d’Oc

2006
Wine of the week, July 11, 2009
Montpezat Merlot Label

What to expect: The Southern French Vin de Pays (country wines) have really come to be value and quality driven. This wine is no exception. The area has the blessing of very consistent vine friendly weather and the freedoms legally to do what the market wants. This wine is therefore a very modern and enjoyable example of Merlot with some aspects of the classical European approach to the grape and some aspects of the New World. You can expect to taste black plums, cinnamon, clove, black cherries, lush new world ripeness of blackberry jam, and dried earth underneath. Suprisingly lovely wine for the price.

est. retail price per bottle: $12
