Seghesio Barbera

Piemonte 2004
Wine of the week, August 29, 2009
barbera

What to expect: A classically purple hue meets you in the glass on this wine and will give the impression of a very weighty wine. The nature of Barbera is a bit deceptive, however, so expect something a little less intense than the color.

As this wine is a 2004 vintage, there is some development of fruits and other flavors. The flavor is predominantly driven by blackberry fruits, but with a supporting cast of black cherry and black raspberry.Seghesio uses a balance of oak aging on this wine, and so you will also find some accents of baking spices and a soft undertone of vanilla.

The final impression of the wine is the nature of the earth, with a dried soil and rocky accent to the fruit and spice that is so very charming.
